Hey there, welcome to 2024 and happy new year! I’ve noticed there are a number of new faces here, it’s so lovely to have you here, welcome here :) Before we get into today’s newsletter, watch the video below, I’ve shared some exciting updates.♥️
💌 A little note for you..
🌟 Click here for the newsletter I refer to in my video.
This is to you, who may have entered into 2024 still recovering from the past year. You may still be healing from past hurts, navigating the middle of believing again, I really don’t know where you find yourself, but I’m here to remind you, a way has already been made for you, keep walking. The fact that you may have gone through some unexpected experiences, doesn’t change God’s plans for you. He knows the best path to take you through. There may be certain lessons we need to learn, people we need to meet and so on. But remember, whatever circumstances you find yourself, no matter how dark it may seem, there is a way out. I’ve been meditating on this verse recently:
Daniel 2:23 ‘He knows what is in the darkness, And light dwells with Him’
‘He’ refers to God, and this verse is a reminder that God is light, He gives direction in the midst of seemingly messiness and confusion and is always our way out. Hold unto this.♥️
It’s A New Horizon
You’re reading this as the start of February, we’ve just gone through the first month of the year. How has it been for you? January was a month of reflection, taking stock on the past year, and spending time with God to gain direction for 2024. The heading above says ‘it’s a new horizon’ and I truly believe it is. 2024 will mark new chapters in our lives, but the question is, do you believe? What does ‘horizon’ mean? It refers to the range of an individual’s view according to the Oxford dictionary. I don’t necessarily believe that everything should physically look in tact or perfect before we believe we’re at the vista of a new chapter in our lives. After all, having faith has nothing to do with what is tangibly seen, but more so believing in what seems like nothingness, knowing the one (God) who has spoken, is faithful to fulfill His word. I know everyone reading this may not believe in God, but I believe the principle still applies. Your basis for believing that there is a new chapter before you, shouldn’t be based on your circumstances. If we constantly allow the past to shape what is yet to come, where is the room for growth? Re-strategising? Taking more risks? Leaps of faith?

Overcoming Fear
I shared in my last newsletter (read here if you missed it) that as we step into the new year it’s so important we release baggage from the previous year/ years, and begin to dream again. A lot of the time we don’t realise that what is holding us back is fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of what ifs. And this fear takes root in different forms and begins to grow until we become completely blinded by it. I’ve decided to address fear because this is often what causes us to see ourselves in a distorted manner. Here’s an example in the Bible. Moses had sent some spies to the land God had promised the Israelites and received a report from the men saying:
“We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” There we saw the giants and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”
A few points stand out to me. The spies hadn’t even began to take steps to conquer the land, they simply assumed that their adversaries were stronger than them. They assumed defeat forgetting that they were not alone, God had already spoken into their situation. They also described themselves ‘grasshoppers’. They had bellittled themselves and were struggling to see themselves properly. Can any of you relate to this? Meanwhile this was God’s promised land for them. And He had reassured them that they would certainly be victorious if they went ahead to conquer the land. Why am I sharing this? Because you have a place(s) that has been marked out as yours, but my question is, are you willing to look past fear and limiting beliefs so you can truly go after what is yours? We need to rely on God to go after what is ours, on our own we are limited.
Step by Step
So even as we’re go through the first quarter of the year, it’s important we plan and take steps towards breaking down different areas of our lives we want to see improvement into actionable steps. Here are some areas I think are worth considering:
Spiritually: how can you grow your relationship with God this year? What do you need to invest in practically?
Financially: how can you grow your finances this year? Do you need to save more? Be more disciplined with your budget? On the topic of budgeting, here’s a free budgeting tracker by Uncovered Conversations. Simply duplicate and you can use it on notion.🩷
Relationally: are there relationships you need to invest more into this year? Have you spent time asking loved ones how you can truly love them this year?
Health: how can you take care of my body this year? Are there unhealthy health habits you need to unlearn?
Professionally: how can you develop yourself professionally? Do you need to upskill? Take new courses?
These areas are areas I’ve found myself thinking about lately. Remember it’s never too late to begin, it’s a new year. But I must also add it’s really important we put systems in place for our goals to materialise. Perhaps start on a weekly basis if this is new for you? Time-blocking is usually very helpful for me and helps me keep track of time.
Journalling Prompts 💭
As we wrap up this newsletter, here are some journalling prompts & some jazz music to listen to!
What is the state of your heart as you enter this new year?
Are you expectant for anything? If yes, what?
What is one thing you will do differently, if failing was not an option?
I believe in you, yes you who is reading this newsletter. As I mentioned earlier, I truly believe 2024 will mark a new horizon in our lives. Remember no matter where you find yourself right now, there is so much power in perspective. There are seeds within you that will blossom beautifully this year. Impossibilities can happen through your life. God can use you to set new standards, precedents, but are you willing to let go of the confinements you may have placed on yourself?
I’m excited to keep writing to you this year! Welcome to a new era of Lessons in Seasons. See you next week!
Such a lovely read and so timely, thank you Rhiems!💗
The timeliness and depth of your newsletters >>>> Thank you for sharing such valuable lessons. ❤️😊
I’m taking all the lessons but one I’d be working most on is my fears. I won’t let my fears hinder me from purposeful living.
My name is Temiloluwa Omoyele. I got to know about your newsletter through an episode on Ezii Like Sunday Morning titled “Gen-Z and Work-Life balance”. I remember listening to that episode and getting intrigued by the things you said and how you said them. It was amazing how much experience you had already and such depth. I had to go search for your socials and was glad I found your instagram. I was even more glad I found your Substack newsletter. I felt I was led here. I read Water Can Still Turn Into Wine a hundred times on days I felt really low. All in all I’m happy I’m here. And I’m so glad I found you.✨
